Carte: A large menu with a generous choice of dishes with an Italian bent, but often tweaked to include whatever fresh produce is on offer in the farm stall element of the property.
Smart: The venue is all about rustic charm and enjoying the feel of being in the Kyalami countryside. No airs and graces required.
Heart: Friendly waiters and waitresses are always in evidence, but the preparation of the food takes longer than expected. If you’re pressed for time, phone ahead and order for a specific time, otherwise you may be frustrated.
Flavour: The California pizza – crispy thin bass, Asiago cheese, rosemary, grapes and drizzled honey – is unconventional but incredible. My favourite pizza anywhere in Johannesburg.
Savour: The building was the original Kyalami farm stall, and there’s still a ploughed field outside, so the presentation-by-numbers of the average, down-the-line eatery is – happily – absent.
